IT skills are evolving at the fastest pace in history, building massive demand for specialized workforce education

The information technology industry connects us all, yet as of 2022, there were more than 4.1 million job postings listed by employers for open positions.

The information technology (IT) industry has demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth over the years. Despite the slow recovery of the U.S. economy, the IT sector has expanded from an annual value-add of $835 billion in 2008 to a staggering $8852.41 billion in 2023. This impressive growth showcases the industry's robust nature and its critical role in shaping the modern world.

IT and some of its most in-demand jobs and skills across industries continue to experience strong demand. For example, data scientists will experience a 91% growth rate over the next ten years. According to Fortune Education, data science is one of the fastest-growing and most critical fields of the future and of the past decade due to the massive volumes of data created daily.

Another example is cloud computing. According to McKinsey, the Cloud has immense potential of which companies are just starting to scratch the surface in its use, which is considered a catalyst for innovation and digital transformation in its ability to increase development speed and provide near-limitless scale. According to Grand View Research in 2022, the global cloud computing market size will reach $1,554.94 billion by 2030. According to Burning Glass, there were 255,637 job openings in the US for cloud computing positions in the last 12 months, with a projected growth rate of 8.6% in the next decade.

As the information technology revolution continues to advance, it is essential for professionals in the industry to engage in continuous learning and skills development. By bridging the gap between industry and education, we aim to empower IT professionals to overcome challenges, drive innovation, and contribute to the ongoing growth and success of the sector. By doing so, we believe that we can help create a more resilient, adaptive, and thriving information technology sector that continues to shape the future of our world.

Higher education and industry are being called upon to work together to advance the US IT industry. Work with our subject matter experts and association partners to create certificates and degree programs that meet the needs of the industry today and the future of the industry tomorrow.
